Care Home Lighting FAQs
How should a care home be lit?
Care homes need uniform, glare-free lighting that supports orientation for residents. Lighting in common areas should be brighter than residential settings, typically 200 to 500 lux, with consistent levels between rooms to reduce the risk of trips and falls during the day.
What colour temperature is best for care homes?
Care homes typically use warm white 2700K to 3000K in residents' rooms and communal lounges for a homely feel, with neutral 4000K in clinical areas, hallways and dining rooms for alertness and good colour rendering of food and faces.
Can tuneable white lighting support residents' wellbeing?
Yes. Tuneable white lighting such as our CTC panel can shift colour temperature from warm 2500K in evenings to cool 6500K during the day, supporting residents' circadian rhythms. This is increasingly specified in dementia care, where consistent day-night cues help reduce agitation.
