Lighting FAQs
A Comprehensive FAQ Guide For Your Lights
Product FAQs
How do I choose the correct colour temperature?
Choosing the right colour temperature depends on the mood and function of the space you’re lighting. Colour temperature is measured in Kelvin (K):
- 2700K–3000K: A warmer light. Creates a cosy, relaxing atmosphere. Ideal for living rooms, bedrooms, and hospitality spaces.
- 4000K: A cooler light. Offers a balanced, natural light. Great for kitchens, offices, and retail environments.
- 5000K +: Best suited for warehouses, hospitals, and task lighting.
How many downlights do I need in my room?
The number of downlights you need depends on the size, layout, and purpose of the room, as well as the brightness of the lights you choose. Rather than guessing, our expert lighting designers can calculate the perfect lighting plan for you.
Simply provide your floor plan and room details, and we’ll determine:
- The ideal number of downlights,
- The best placement for even illumination,
- The appropriate brightness, beam angle and colour temperature for your space.
This ensures your room is well-lit, energy-efficient, and visually comfortable, without over or under lighting.

Which beam angle should I choose?
The beam angle determines how light spreads from your fixture, affecting both illumination and ambiance.
- Narrow beam (15°–30°): Creates focused light, ideal for highlighting areas.
- Medium beam (35°–60°): Offers general-purpose lighting.
- Wide beam (60°–120°+): Provides broad, even coverage, perfect for offices, hallways, or commercial spaces.
Our lighting designers can recommend the best beam angle for your space based on room size, ceiling height, and lighting goals, ensuring optimal brightness, comfort, and energy efficiency.
What is IP rating?
An IP rating (Ingress Protection rating) indicates how well a light fixture is protected against dust and water. It’s usually shown as IP followed by two digits, for example, IP65:
- The first digit (0–6) measures protection against solids, like dust.
- The second digit (0–9) measures protection against liquids, like water.
How do I customise a product?
The majority of our products are customisable. Simply contact our lighting consultants to discuss your specifications and they will provide you with a bespoke solution.
Is 4000K too cold for my living room?
In short, yes, 4000K can feel a little too neutral or crisp, especially if you’re going for a cosy, relaxed atmosphere. Most homeowners in the UK tend to prefer 2700K or 3000K in their living spaces because these warmer tones feel softer and more inviting.
How do I know if an item is in stock before ordering?
Our product availability can be confirmed by contacting us. We will give you an accurate dispatch date and stock availability.
How can lighting make colours look real instead of dull?
Lighting makes colours look real instead of dull by showing them accurately. In short, lights with a high CRI (Colour Rendering Index) reveal the true shades of objects, making reds, blues, and greens appear vibrant - just like they would in natural sunlight. Poor lighting can wash out or distort colours, making everything look flat or off.
