What CRI should retail lighting have?

Retail spaces should use lighting with a colour rendering index of at least Ra 90, especially in fashion, fresh food, beauty and jewellery where accurate colour reproduction directly affects sales. A higher CRI means products on display look closer to how they will look in natural light.

Are LED downlights suitable for retail interiors?

Yes. LED downlights are one of the most widely used retail fittings, delivering directional light onto stock and circulation routes. High-CRI options such as Ra 90+ are recommended for fashion, food and beauty, with adjustable or fixed beams depending on the application.

Does retail lighting need emergency function?

Yes. Retail premises require emergency escape lighting under BS 5266-1, with 3-hour duration on escape routes. Many of our downlights, panels and bulkheads are available with built-in emergency function, allowing the same fitting to support both general retail illumination and emergency egress.
