Product FAQs
What is an exit bulkhead and where is it typically installed?
An exit bulkhead is a surface-mounted wall or ceiling fitting that combines an illuminated exit sign with an integrated emergency battery, designed to clearly mark escape routes and exit doors during normal operation and during a mains power failure. Exit bulkheads are widely specified for the perimeter of buildings, above external escape doors, in stairwells, plant rooms, and along external walls leading to a final exit, where the exit signage needs to be visible in all conditions including outdoors.
What is the difference between a maintained and non-maintained exit fitting?
A maintained exit fitting stays illuminated continuously, both during normal operation and during a mains failure, so the exit sign is always visible to occupants. A non-maintained fitting only illuminates when the mains power fails. Maintained is typically required in public-facing areas where the exit signage must always be visible for wayfinding, while non-maintained is sometimes used in back-of-house areas where occupants are familiar with the building layout. The Salus II is available in both maintained and non-maintained variants.
What features does the Salus II offer for installation and ongoing maintenance?
Your Lights' Salus II is an IP65 self-test, stand-alone 3-hour emergency bulkhead exit light, suitable for both interior and exterior wall mounting. It features 20mm rear and side cable entries, allowing flexible installation routing, and a screwless hinged gear tray for fast and tool-light installation. The self-test functionality means each fitting independently runs its own scheduled tests and reports the results via on-board indicators, reducing the time and cost of ongoing emergency lighting maintenance under BS 5266-1.
