Product FAQs
What is a stand alone emergency downlight?
A stand alone emergency downlight is a self-contained emergency luminaire with its own integrated battery, designed to deliver backup illumination during a mains power failure without relying on a central battery system. Each fitting operates independently, meaning failure of one unit does not affect any other fitting in the installation. Stand alone fittings are widely specified in commercial, retail and public sector buildings because they are simpler to install, easier to maintain, and less expensive than a centrally-powered system, particularly in smaller buildings or distributed projects.
Where is an emergency downlight required under UK regulations?
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and BS 5266-1, emergency lighting must be provided to illuminate escape routes, open areas, and high-risk task areas in non-domestic buildings, where required by the building's fire risk assessment. Emergency downlights are commonly specified along corridors, in stairwells, near final exit doors, in open plan offices, and over key change-of-level points such as the top and bottom of stairs, where a clear, even level of light is needed during evacuation.
Where does the Vanguard III fit within an emergency lighting scheme?
Your Lights' Vanguard III is a recessed stand alone emergency downlight, designed for use in suspended and plasterboard ceilings across commercial, retail, education and public sector buildings. As a stand alone unit it does not require a central battery system, making it suitable for both new build projects and refurbishment work where a self-contained emergency solution is the most cost-effective and straightforward approach to BS 5266-1 compliance.
