Downlight FAQs

What are LED downlights used for?

LED downlights are recessed or surface-mounted ceiling fittings that direct light downwards onto a defined area. They are widely used for general illumination in commercial offices, retail, healthcare, hospitality and educational spaces, giving a clean, flush ceiling and a focused light distribution.

Are LED downlights suitable for offices?

Yes. Most of our LED downlights are suitable for offices, with options for UGR under 19 on selected ranges to meet BS EN 12464-1 for screen-based work. 4000K daylight and a colour rendering index of at least Ra 80 are typical office specifications.

What IP rating do commercial wet-area downlights need?

Downlights installed in zones with water exposure should be IP65 to be dust-tight and protected against water jets. IP44 is acceptable for general damp areas such as covered entrances. For most office, retail and back-of-house ceilings, IP20 is sufficient.
