What ceiling void depth is needed for recessed downlights?

Most commercial recessed downlights need 60mm to 100mm of ceiling void above the cut-out, depending on the model. Shallow versions are available where the void is limited, and remote drivers can be used to keep the visible body of the fitting compact.

Can recessed downlights be installed in fire-rated ceilings?

Yes. Fire-rated recessed downlights are designed to maintain the fire integrity of the ceiling for 30, 60 or 90 minutes. They are required by Building Regulations in escape routes and any ceiling that forms part of a fire compartment, so always check the spec sheet. For fire rated downlights see our R3 and Core downlights.

Are recessed LED downlights dimmable?

Most of our commercial recessed downlights can be offered as dimmable, with TRIAC, 1-10V and DALI driver options depending on the model. Specifying dimmable drivers up front allows lighting to integrate with daylight sensors, occupancy controls and scene controllers for energy efficiency and user comfort.
