Product FAQs

What is an emergency twin spot and where is it required?

An emergency twin spot is a wall-mounted luminaire with two adjustable LED heads designed to provide backup illumination during a mains power failure. The twin head design lets each lamp be aimed independently, making it easy to direct light along an escape route or towards an exit. Emergency twin spots are widely specified for warehouses, factories, large retail spaces, plant rooms, and other industrial or commercial interiors where a single fitting needs to cover a wide area in the event of an emergency, in line with BS 5266 emergency lighting requirements.

What is the difference between a manual test and a self-test emergency fitting?

A manual test emergency fitting requires the building's responsible person to physically initiate the monthly function test and the annual three-hour duration test, recording the results in the building's logbook. A self-test fitting carries out the same tests automatically on a scheduled basis and uses on-board indicators to report any failures. The Janus is the manual test version, making it the more cost-effective option for buildings where a designated competent person can carry out and log the regular emergency tests required by BS 5266 and the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order.

Where is the Janus best suited within a building?

Your Lights' Janus is designed for interior applications and features a high specification optic, delivering the focused, directional light needed to illuminate escape routes, stairwells, exit doors and large open areas during a mains failure. It is a 3-hour duration emergency fitting, which is the standard duration specified for the vast majority of UK commercial and industrial buildings under BS 5266-1. The adjustable twin heads allow each Janus to be tailored to the specific layout of the space it serves at the point of installation.
